La Dispute - "Somewhere At the Bottom of the River Between Vega and Altair"

    A modern emo masterpiece.

The Depreciation Guild - "Spirit Youth"

I just stumbled upon this tonight, and damn is it awesome. The Depreciation Guild seamlessly weaves shoegazy textures with chiptuny synth leads. Spirit Youth is an extremely wondrous, and also a ton of fun to listen to. It's laid back, grooves hard, and glides through your ears, delivering a more than satisfying experience.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "F♯ A♯ ∞"

This album, being a GY!BE record, is astonishing as hell. It's dark, mysterious, and beautiful. Never has a band better described a post-apocalyptic world through sound than this one. It's also my soundtrack for when the zombie apocalypse finally comes.

Slint - "Spiderland"

"Who the fuck is Slint? Why should anyone even care about them? Well, they are four Kentucky natives that practically created the self-proclaimed genre of post-rock and probably the best thing musically to come out of Kentucky."

Fripp and Eno - "(No Pussyfooting)"

An ambient masterpiece. That's all I have to say

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - "Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven"

I only have one thing to say about this. Post rock brilliance! If you've never heard this, listen to it right now! You won't be disappointed. Absolutely astounding. This album bleeds sheer beauty and emotion, and you may or may not break have a life changing experience.

Wu-Tang Clan - "Enter the 36 Chambers"

This is probably the greatest hip hop album ever. Battle raps galore, fierce delivery from some of the best names in hip hop, and RZA's superb production makes this essential listening. Every member brings their "A" game, and the album remains fresh to this day, despite being almost 20 years old. It really is true: Wu-Tang Clan really ain't nuthin ta fuck wit.

Tigers Jaw - "Tigers Jaw"

Awesome alternative rock/pop punk band you should listen to. Kind of remind me of Stay What You Are era Saves the Day a bit with some emo influence. You should check them out.

Burzum - "Filosofem"

I'm not terribly huge on black metal (there a few albums I really enjoy, especially blackgaze) but Filosofem by Burzum is probably my favorite black metal album ever. It's absolutely evil, dire, and sinister and it chills at your very bones. Varg also implements ambient and shoegaze elements on this album, expanding on the Burzum's classic black metal sound. The melodies transcend through your mind, leaving only melancholy and despair in their wake. This being black metal, the production is poor and harsh, and while that may turn away some listeners I believe it only adds to the experience. So I urge you, give this one a listen, and experience agony, in musical form.

Earth - "The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull"

Drone juggernauts Earth mix their signature dronedoom sound with some desolate stoner/folk rock. The record is the embodiment of the desert, and sounds more akin to Kyuss than it does to Sunn O)))). This being Earth, the album does indeed wallow along, as if being stranded in a barren wasteland for days, dying of dehydration and losing your grip on sanity. The songs crawl along with laid back tempos and twangy guitar riffs. The Bees Made Honey in the Lion's Skull is a unique mix of drone and stoner rock, with a good heap of psychedelic textures thrown in, and I urge you to check it out.

Neurosis - "Through Silver in Blood"

In case you don't know, I'm a HUGE post-metal fanboy. This album is pretty much the pinnacle of the genre, the album that solidified post-metal as force to be reckoned with. Sheer anger mixed with lush beautiful soundscapes and superb songwriting makes this one a classic. It's also one of my favorites ever and you should download it.
